Cloudtrax wired client6/20/2023 ![]() We have wasted so much time and resources with this it's unreal. Its completely random, we have Mac, I phone/pad everything, Windows, Linux clients and all get booted at random intervals.Īt the moment we are running around to sites because the latest "fix" is to power down, wait and load manual firmware. Every morning we get the joy of waking up to customers unhappy because they have no Wifi. One beta firmware works, the next doesn't. When we open a ticket it takes 5 days to get a lame response with no real data even though we provide all the detailed information we are asked for. People get kicked off, constantly prompting for password which is worse than just being kicked off. We deployed over 100 of these in many different locations and they just simply do not work. If you are thinking of buying these please don't. They also tell me that future firmware upgrades after v588 (the current version) should not lock-up the units - mine have locked up going from v587 to 6.0 beta AND from 6.0 beta "back" to 588 AND from 587 to 588, but it remains to be seen, when the next stable release comes out, if they will still lock up after the upgrade. And in any event, it's best to leave it OFF - it's a beta feature and is really not ready yet. Don't toggle Band Steering without rebooting after the change takes place, and be on hand to physically unplug and reboot every access point in case they lock up. What I know about the MR1750s (to this point). On one occasion, they told me they were going to do a remote MR1750 upgrade and didn't do it at all on another, I told them when I would be on-site (I told them I was aware they might lock up) and they did the remote upgrade hours after I had left, and that upgrade (surprise!) locked up all the MR1750s. The much more expensive MR1750s have had quite a few rough edges, and it's been frustrating. ![]() In other words, you get what you pay for, but Open-Mesh might be just fine for your purposes.Īs I said before, I've been using OM2P devices for a long time with very few issues. Cisco/Meraki support, however, is very well regarded. In exchange, however, their support can be a bit dicey. The Cloudtrax service is free with the Open-Mesh access points with no recurring charges. OM may be a "Meraki knockoff" (I haven't used Meraki) BUT they didn't do what Meraki did: offer the service for free and then begin charging certain users going forward there are many levels of licensing and additional related Meraki devices, also with paid licensing agreements. I do not feel that these are ready for production use at this time, until some bugs with hardware and/or firmware are ironed out.įeel free to comment and or contact me here. BTW this is one of the features that seems to lock up the devices when activating/deactivating, so if you toggle it on or off, make sure to reboot the MR1750s right away. The support engineers really want me to use it, but I don't want to be troubleshooting non-connecting clients. I understand that this feature is in beta, but I would leave it OFF. Notably, Band Steering (where the device tries to force a compatible client to the less-crowded 5GHz band) doesn't work reliably, and sometimes doesn't allow the client to connect at all. While they seem to perform OK when they are working, I've had massive issues with lock-ups after making seemingly minor changes to the settings in Cloudtrax and after firmware is updated. And even if I did get in touch with them, the devices are EOL.After overwhelmingly positive experiences with the OM2P series of access points, I am sorry to report that I'm extremely disappointed with the MR1750 units. Datto's support is locked down tight, with no real way to communicate with them outside of being a partner. Looking at old SpiceWorks posts, I can see some users had luck with Open Mesh support releasing resold and locked APs from their associated CT account, but that was several years ago. I measaged the seller and of course, he picked them up from a thrift store and resold them. ![]() It didn't occur to me that the MAC address could be locked to a CT account with no way to release it, except the prior owner doing so. When I try to add them, CT tells me both APs are already in use. Foolishly, I thought I could simply pick up a couple of used OM2Pv2 APs on eBay to add to a client's network, even though I know they're out of support and Datto has new products and business models, and we don't know how long CloudTrax will even be around.
